Town and Museums

Discover the two municipal art galleries, “Villa Manzoni” and “Palazzo delle Paure” that houses the contemporary section, www.museilecco.org.

The well-preserved “Torre Viscontea” is the only part of the Visconti fortification that survived the demolitions decreed in 1782 of the ancient Castle of Lecco (Castello). It is open to visitors and is located in Piazza XX Settembre which was the Castle’s court of arms; the hexagonal bell tower (Campanile) of San Nicolò www.campaniledilecco.it it is based on the gunboat of the fortification and is one of the highest bell towers in Europe.

Climb to the top of the tower and admire the town reflected in the lake surrounded by its beautiful mountains.

Discover also the characteristic places that the writer Alessandro Manzoni has immortalized in his famous novel “I Promessi Sposi” and where the characters of the book are supposed to have lived; the Church of Fra Cristoforo, the house of Lucia for example, all this walking in the ways that wind through the ancient Lecco.
